Symphonic Band
Our Mission
The mission of the South Plains College Symphonic Band is two-fold:
- To provide our music majors with an experience and a level of instruction that will prepare them to continue their studies at a four-year university.
- To provide our non-majors with a creative outlet to continue their enjoyment of making music.
The Band
The Symphonic Band studies and performs a wide variety of literature and gives multiple performances each semester. Concerts have also featured small and medium ensembles from within the band as well as student soloists accompanied by the band as selected by the director. The Symphonic Band also performs at community events such as the SPC/Levelland Festival of Lights, the college’s commencement ceremonies, and supports the SPC athletics program by playing at home basketball games in the Spring semester. When scheduling permits, the Band may also give tour concerts at regional high schools.
Joining the Band
Membership in the SPC Symphonic Band is open to any student who participated in a high school band program and/or can demonstrate proficiency playing a band instrument. Auditions are held every Spring for membership and scholarship consideration for the following Fall Semester. All members are eligible for participation scholarships with amounts determined by the audition and the student’s achievements. Following a successful audition, members will register for Symphonic Band (MUEN 1127.001) and a 30 minute per week private lesson with the professor of their instrument (MUAP 116x.00x).
