VOCATIONAL NURSING-PLAINVIEW CAMPUS

ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION TO THE VN PROGRAM.

  • The Vocational Nursing (VN Program is a 12-month curriculum).
  • The course of study is designed to prepare individuals interested in the nursing profession to practice as licensed vocational nurses.
  • Students satisfactorily completing the program will receive a Certificate of Proficiency and then be eligible to apply to take the State Board Exam (NCLEX-PN).
  • The VN Program is offered at the Levelland Campus, the SPC Reese Center, and the Plainview Center.
  • The VN Program is approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Texas Board of Nursing.

Steps for VN Programs Admission:

Step 1: Gather Documents:

  • Must have a High School Diploma/GED
  • Apply to South Plains College (Acceptance to the college does not guarantee admission to the VN Program.)
  • Apply online at southplainscollege.edu.  Click on the box that says “Apply to SPC” and follow the prompts.
  • Submit Official (Signed and sealed) High School and/or college transcripts from any college attended to the admissions office as soon as possible.
  • Submit proof of Meningitis Vaccine to the Admissions office.
  • Contact the Admissions office for assistance at 806-716-2355.

 

Step 2: Apply for Financial Aid (If Needed)

  • Processing for Financial Aid takes approximately 6-8 weeks. Do Not Wait for acceptance to apply for financial aid.  The link to complete the FASFA can be found online at southplainscollege.edu under Financial Aid Homepage.
  • The Financial Aid office is located in the Student Services BLDG. on the Levelland Campus or can be contacted at 806-716-2368 or financialaid@southplainscollege.edu

Step 3:  VNP Application

  • Students must submit TEAS scores and show proof of TSI Compliance to the Nursing Department to obtain an application to the program. MINIMUM SCORES IN EACH SUBJECT FOR ACCEPTANCE:

Step 4:  Complete the ENTIRE Application Packet and return it to the Nursing Department

  • Bring the application on or before the deadline (Please call for the occurring VN Application Deadline)
  • Must submit Official (Signed and Sealed) Transcripts, both High School and College (other than SPC transcripts) with your application NO EXCEPTIONS
  • Bring passing TEAS scores
  • Physical form and required immunizations
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association ONLY)
  • NO late applications will be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS
  • We do NOT require recommendation letters
  • Must include a valid, legible, email on the application, you will be notified at the email provided of acceptance or denial into the program within 3-4 weeks after the deadline. (Sometimes longer)

The program cannot accept incomplete packets-please be sure you have all required documents

Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the Vocational Nursing program

The Vocational Nursing program is a twelve-month curriculum, designed to prepare accountable, responsible graduate nurses to practice ready to provide direct patient care in a variety of health care settings. 

Students completing this curriculum receive a Certificate of Proficiency and

are eligible to apply to take the State Board Exam (NCLEX) for Licensed Practical Nurse Licensure.

   Be Texas Success Initiative (TSI) compliant.

   Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better

TEAS EXAM

What is the TEAS? 

The ATI TEAS, or Test of Essential Academic Skills, is a standardized test designed specifically to assess a student's preparedness for entering the health science fields. Questions are designed to test the basic academic skills you will need to perform successfully in the areas of: Reading, Math, Science, and English and Language Usage. 

 

Why do I (the student) have to take the TEAS? 

The ATI TEAS has been statistically proven to be a valid predictor of early nursing school success. Your score on the TEAS is one measure of academic preparedness that helps South Plains College consider your acceptance into our nursing program(s). 

 

What does the TEAS exam consist of? 

The ATI TEAS test is comprised of 170 questions that are formatted as both multiple choice items with 4 answer options and alternate-type items. This includes 150 scored questions and 20 unscored pretest questions. Students have 209 minutes to complete the exam. 

The number of questions in each content section and subsection are as follows:

How should I prepare for the TEAS exam? 

ATI, the official provider of prep for the exam, recommends that you allow yourself at least six weeks to prepare for the exam.
There are a variety of prep resources available to help you study for the test – all aligned to the ATI TEAS, Version 7 and packed with thousands of practice questions based on the content and format of the actual exam.  

 

 

Where do I register?

Candidates may register in person at the Plainview Campus, 1920 W. 24th St.  The candidate must have the SPC Student ID, picture ID (i.e. driver’s license) and form of payment (cash, credit card or money order) OR the candidate may register online to pay by credit/debit card.  Cost of the exam is $75 and payment is required at the time of registration.  The test fee is non-refundable.

Use the pull-down menu, select and schedule your exam and provide all information requested.

There will be NO EXEMPTIONS allowed for testing purposes

  1. Students may test up to 4 times if time allows and the best scores are accepted
  2. Students are encouraged to test EARLY in order to avoid compilations
  3. TEAS scores are good for 1 year
  4. Take the test on the campus you plan on attending ONLY
  5. Minimum scores can be discussed prior to testing
